I can see your point here that instead of having hot air brought back around, you get cold air from the outside at atmospheric pressure - maybe this provides some improvement. :they allow the turbos to maintain maximum spin between shifts (quicker post shift recovery) I'm not sure that they do this really any better than the recircs - thats what they were designed to do also, releave the pent up pressure in the pipes between the turbo outlet and the throttle body therefore trying to keep the compressor spinning between shifts. :they cause a rich condition for about less then a second.
